Mangaluru, Dec 30, 2015 : The preliminary procedures for the counting of votes polled in the Legislative Council elections held on December 27 commenced at 20 counting centres in the state at 8 am on December 30, Wednesday. In Mangaluru, the counting centre is at the Victoria Girls’ Composite PU College at Ladyhill. Official sources say the actual counting of votes will commence at 12 noon and the results will be known by 6 pm. Nearly 29 rounds of counting will be held.
The District Administration and the Police Department have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure smooth counting, informed A.B. Ibrahim as well as City Police Commissioner S Murugan. As many as ten platoons of KSRP have also been deputed as part of security measures.
A total of eight candidates had contested the polls in DK, Udupi MLC constituency and the fate of Congress candidate Pratapchandra Shetty, BJP candidate Kota Srinivas Poojary, Independents Harikrishna Bantwal, Jayaprakash Hegde, Alphonso Franco, Ismail Doddamane and Praveenchandra Jain and JD(S) candidate S Prakash Shetty will be decided today.
There were a total of 6,560 votes in the DK, Udupi constituency and 6,533 of them had voted during Sunday’s election.
