MLC polls : Congress, BJP to field sitting candidates Pratapchandra Shetty, Kota Srinivas Poojary

Udupi, Nov 23, 2015 : With the election to the State Legislative Council likely to be held  shortly,  The Congress and the BJP in the district were thinking in terms of fielding their sitting MLCs Pratapchandra Shetty and Kota Srinivas Poojary themselves. The two, if fielded would be seeking re-election from local bodies constituencies.

There are as many as 6800 voters in the constituency covering DK and Udupi districts and  all local body elected representatives as well as  MLAs and  MPs have the right to vote.

It is also noteworthy that both the parties have enough membership for their candidates to emerge victorious.

If Kota Srinivas Poojary was willing to re-contest, Pratapchandra Shetty, it has been gathered, was initially unwilling but had to finally bow to the  request of the party workers. It is said several Congress workers had also met  former union Minister Oscar Fernandes  at the Congress office here seeking to field Shetty himself.

The notification for the Legislative Council elections is likely to come up shortly as the terms of the existing MLCs will end on January 5.
