Mangaluru, Oct 9, 2015 : Indicating encouragement to alternative energy resources, Congress MLC Ivan D’Souza plans to install solar panels on the roof top of his house in Valencia. Apart from using the power thus generated for his house, MLC D’Souza hopes to transfer the unutilised power to the local grid.
He stressed to the media present that he ordered for solar panels and installation work is likely to be completed in a week and they will be operational by October 18.
He said he has been paying around Rs. 5,600 a month towards power charges of his single-storeyed house. It was during his recent visit to Boston and New York that he found many houses making use of solar power. After returning to the city, he met officials from Mangalore Electricity Supply Company and representatives of private service provider SELCO and decided to install roof top solar panels. He is spending Rs. 7 lakh for the installation, and it is entirely from his personal funds.
He motivated people to install roof-top solar panels, which many ESCOMs were encouraging. The government provides subsidy for installation of roof-top solar panels. Houses, schools and other institutions can install solar panels and earn revenue from Mescom by supplying power to the grid.
