MLA says Rs 65 cr sanctioned for Mangaluru Old Port

Mangaluru, Dec 15, 2017: The Union and state governments have sanctioned Rs 65 crore for the development of Old Mangaluru Port, said MLA J R Lobo.

He said that the Union government has sanctioned its share of Rs 25 crore. The remaining amount would be released by the state government. Stating that Rs 29 crore has been sanctioned for silt removal, the legislator said that the depth of the port is 4 metre, which would be increased to 7 metre, to facilitate the arrival of ships to old port.

Delegation  :   The MLA said that he had taken a delegation to Lakshadweep to hold discussion on the construction of a jetty in Mangaluru. “The Lakshadweep administration has given approval for the construction of a jetty at a cost of Rs 68 crore in Mangaluru. The meet with the Lakshadweep administration will accelerate trading activities between Mangaluru and Lakshadweep,” said MLA Lobo.

He said that the government has sanctioned Rs 47 lakh for the construction of a shed for women in Old Port. The work will be taken up shortly.
