MLA Yogish Bhat inaugurates 3-day Konkani Rangotsav

Mangalore, May 3: The Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy and Rangakarmi Kumble Shrinivas Bhat Pratishtan jointly organized a 3-day event called “Konkani Rangotsav,” which was inaugurated at Rangayogi Ramanada Choorya Vedike of Town Hall on May 3, Monday. MLA Yogesh Bhat inaugurated the event and said that activities such as dance, drama, music, and art are essential for the development of a language. 

 

 

 

 

Speaking about Rangayogi Ramananda Choorya, he said that Shri Choorya was an eminent person who encouraged people to develop Konkani theatre. He corrected people’s mistakes till they gave their best performances. He always hid his personal sorrows and made people laugh. 

Regarding funds allocated by the government, he said that the government used to release a sum of Rs 8 lakh for social and political development; but later the government started releasing Rs 20 lakh. He informed that the Yeddyurappa government is now releasing a sum of Rs 40 lakh. He added that during the rule of the BJP, Kannada received classical status and Konkani gained better recognition. 

Kumble Sundar Rao, the president of Karnataka Yakshagana Academy, was the chief guest of the event. Speaking in appreciation of Choorya, he said that the dramatist expressed great love toward his co-artists, wishing them all the recognition, respect, and facilities. 

Member of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Mangalpady Namdev Shenoy made the welcome speech. Registrar of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy S H Shivarudrappa delivered the keynote address. 

President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Kundapur Narayana Kharvi and Convener of Kumble Shrinivas Bhat Prathistan Gopinath Bhat were the dignitaries on the dais.
