MLA Raghupathi Bhat offers bagina to River Swarna

Udupi, Aug 28, 2012: Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat offered bagina to River Swarna, which is the major source of water for Udupi, at Shri Siddivinayaka Temple near Manipal End Point on August 28, Tuesday. 

Addressing reporters after offering bagina, he said that it was late Dr. V. S. Acharya who started the tradition of offering bagina to River Swarna, which flows through Udupi. He said that he has offered bagina on behalf of the people of Udupi, adding that the river was not dredged in the month of May owing to some technical problems. If properly dredged in time, the river provides water throughout the year for all the 32 wards of Udupi, he said.

He said that the district administration is trying to launch Dr. Acharya’s project of making steps to Shimbra Ghats. 

Devdas Hebbar, president of Udupi TP; Bharathi Chandrashekar, vice president of Udupi Municipality; Vasudeva Bhat, and many others were also present.
