MCC to tackle natural emergencies systematically with dedicated response cells

Mangalore City CoprorationMangaluru, May 21, 2017: It is stated that Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is gearing up to tackle all types of eventualites be it  flood and/or natural disasters in the coming monsoons now showing signs of arrival. City Mayor Kavitha Sanil announced that an exclusive cell will start functioning from June 1 at the city corporation to cater to emergency situations and will be on call round the clock. A team of 10 gangmen will be formed and equipped with all essential equipment to tackle emergencies.

The mayor said she attended a workshop on disaster management held in New Delhi recently. It has become imperative to take up both preventive and precautionary measures too against natural disasters, she said.

Karnataka State Disaster Management Cell will train the gangmen to make them efficient on the job, she said. In the coming days, further measures will be taken up at the district level, with three early warning towers expected to be installed in different places to emit distress signals in case of any natural disasters. The towers will be connected to the control room at Delhi, she added. Chief whip at MCC Council Shashidhar Hegde said such towers are essential with the coast being highly sensitive.

Mayor to have ’phone-in’  from May 23 Tuesday: Mangalureans can lodge their grievances directly with Mayor Kavitha Sanil on a ’phone-in’ service that will get functional from May 23 tuesday. Mayor Kavitha Sanil said that people can share their woes related to civic issues on dedicated telephone lines-0824-2220301/318 between 10 am and 11 am. It will be held on a monthly basis with various section heads expected to be present during the phone-in, she said.
