Mangalore, March 30: The state government has approved MCC’s action plan for road maintenance, repair, and development under the second installment of the special grant of Rs. 100 crore sanctioned to it. MCC Commissioner K. N. Vijayaprakash said that the department of urban development has issued an order approving the action plan on Feb 23.



According to the action plan, 60 link roads and 12 main roads within MCC territory have been identified for development in addition to other developmental projects including the construction of storm water drains and footpaths, installing of street lights, building of parks, and improving of graveyards.


The government order instructs the civic body to take up these projects within 3 years from 2011 – 12 to 2013 – 14. During the first financial year, the civic body will invite bids for projects worth Rs. 30 crore to Rs. 35 crore.


One of the major projects in the approved action plan involves the widening of the Padil – Bajal – Jeppinamogaru Main Road at the cost of Rs. 2 crore. This 5-km stretch connects NH48 at Padil to NH17 at Jeppinamogaru. The MCC has already concretized a 500-m stretch from Padil to Kankanady Junction. The rest of the 4.5-m stretch is still to be widened and concretized, said Mr. Vijayaprakash.


Another project is to widen the Falnir Main Road between Kankanady Circle and Avery Junction and convert it into a four-lane road. Two lanes of the stretch have already been concretized and the civic body has earmarked Rs. 2.4 crore for further development work.


The action plan also lists out the development of the 0.5km stretch of the Kodical Main Road at an estimated cost of Rs. 2 crore, the 600-m stretch from Mahakali Katte at Konchady and Kavoor Junction on Kuntikana Kavoor Main Road at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore, the 415-m Shanthinagar to Kavoor Junction at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore; and the 1-km stretch from Durga Mahal to Kalikamba Junction on Mannagudda to Car Street Main Road at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.80 crore.

The plan also lists the 1-km stretch of the Chitrapura Main Road (Rs 3 crore), 800-m of the Konchady Land Links Main Road (Rs 50 lakh), 400-m of the Malemar Main Road (Rs. 2 crore), 700-m stretch of the Shivagiri Main Road (Rs. 2 crore), 400-m of the Kadekar Mallikarjuna Temple Main Road (Rs 2 crore), and 700-m of the Malady Court Main Road (Rs 2 crore).


Hosabettu Main Road; Kulai Main Road; Baikampady Main Road; Panambur-Bengre Main Road; Panjimogaru Main Road; Kunjathbail North and South Main roads; Marakada Main Road; Bangra Kuloor Main Road; Derebail North Main Road; Panchchanady Main Road; Tiruvail Main Road; Kadri Padavu Main Road; Boloor Main Road; Mannagudda Main Road; Kambla Main Road; Kodialbail Main Road; Bejai Main Road, Kadri North and South Main Roads; Shivabagh Main Road; Padavu Central and East Main Roads; Maroli Main Road; Bendoor Main Road; Court Main Road; Central Market Main Road; Dongarakery Main Road; Kudroli Main Road; Bunder Main Road; Cantonment Main Road; Milagres Road; Alape South Main Road; Kannur Main Road; Attavara Main Road; Mangaladevi Main Road, Hoige Bazar Main Road, Jeppu Main Road, and other roads are also listed for development.
