The scientist also spoke about 3 species of mosquitoes, one of which can survive without water for a long time. He urged health officers to play a prominent role in maintaining cleanliness in the city.

Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the commissioner of MCC, said that MCC is making all attempts possible to control contagious diseases such as malaria; however, these measures will be successful only if the public encourages, supports, and cooperates with the MCC. He also urged the prestigious colleges of the city to craft innovative programmes to curb contagious diseases and declared that the MCC will reward the college, which presents the most innovative programme. Opining that this will give rise to healthy competition, he said that their work will be evaluated on a monthly basis. He also urged Dr. Ghosh to create a committee of experts under the leadership of the doctors present.

He also said that tenders will be called for solid waste management on September 15 and that the city will be later divided into two zones for the purpose.

Mayor Rajani Dugganna distributed guppies to the doctors. In her speech, she warned people not to take contagious diseases lightly because they are on the rise and urged them to consult a doctor immediately in case of ill health. She also requested the public to cooperate with the MCC to control contagious diseases and to keep the city clean.

Dr Srinivas Kakkilaya, Dr Suresh Shetty, Arun, Ashok Kumar DK, Health Standing Committee President Shantha, and Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar were present on the occasion.
