MCC cracks down on chaat stalls in Mangalore

Mangalore, May 22, 2012 : The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) raided chaat stalls in different parts of Mangalore on May 21, Monday.

A team of 6 MCC officials raided 18 chaat stalls in Kottara, Lady Hill, and Urwa Store, besides raiding several such stalls in Suratkal.

Bharath, MCC health inspector, said that the owner of Kailas Bhel Centre, who runs 70 chaat stalls all over Mangalore, told Samaya TV that he had paid money to MCC for permission to run these stalls. When the MCC commissioner came to know of this, he was furious and ordered a raid on chaat stalls all over the city.

According to Mr. Bharath, MCC will continue raiding and shutting down chaat stalls until the owner of Kailas Bhel Centre comes to the MCC office and gives an explanation.

The MCC will organize raids on chaat stalls on May 22, Tuesday too.
