Dr. Vijayaprakash said that the eviction of 14 houses in Survey No. 7 will facilitate free flow of water. The storm-water drain is actually supposed to be 30ft, but has been reduced to 3.5ft because of illegal construction of houses on either sides of the drain. The MCC has, therefore, demolished the compound walls of the house and has warned the owners to remove them and follow the rules of the civic body.

Speaking further, he said that the MCC has earmarked Rs. 30 lakh to evict illegal structures and repair storm water drains. The funds have been taken from the Rs. 100 crore sanctioned by the CM for the development of Mangalore.

He said that the civic body will conduct similar demolition drives in places such as Kannur, Bangra Kuloor, Pumpwell, Padil, and many other places. He urged the public to follow the corporation rules and create a healthy environment.
