Lightning claims one life in Karkala, 4 suffer electric shocks at Nekkilady

Mangaluru, June 3, 2016: The heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning that have been lashing various parts of Dakshina Kannada and some parts of Udupi district since the past couple of days have claimed one life.


Lightning Narayan Devadiga (55), a resident of Belman near Karkala was killed when lightning struck him near his house on June 2, Thursday.


The deceased was a labourer. In another incident, a house at Karuvelu  Paraneeru in Nekkilady village  was damaged  and  four persons in the house who suffered electric shocks have been hospitalised.

It is learnt, the lightning first hit a palm tree near the house. Those hospitalised are Sachin (22), Ganesh (22), Pavithra (18) and Satish (24).

In another case, a house at Kariangala in Bantwal  was damaged and electrical appliances burnt during a lightning strike.

How sad ? The Lightning usually hits in the rural ares as the houses are located in far location
