Largest voting turnout in Mangalore, says DC

Mangalore, May 13: During a press conference held in the DC chamber on May 13, DC V. Ponnuraj said that Mangalore has polled the most of the total polling of 73.47 percent in the GP elections. He added that Konaje alone witnessed a turnout of 36.38 percent.

Out of total 73.47%, polling, Mangalore taluk gained 71.08%, Bantwal taluk 73.97%, Belthangady taluk 72.04%, Puttur Taluk 75.43% and Sullia Taluk 79.08%. The highest percentage of voting was in Ganjimath of Mangalore taluk which had  87.52%. In places like Kolnadu, Kurnadu(Bantwal), Barya (Belthangady), Kombaru (Puttur), Ivarnadu (Sullia) touched high levels in voting between 70% and 85%.


The counting will be held in two phases on May 17, he said and further informed that half the counting will be done in the morning, while the other half will be completed in the afternoon. Each phase will last for 2 – 3 hours. The recounting will be done simultaneously in another room, he said. 

The candidates or one of their supporters are allowed to be present during the counting process unlike the previous GP elections when both the candidates and their supporters were permitted. Security has been tightened to avoid any untoward incidents. Only the candidates’ supporters are allowed to view the recounting process. 

Regarding online applications, he said that the public can download application forms from www.dc.nic.in. He also said that the applications submitted online will be registered in the DC office for additional details. He added that successful implementation requires public support. 

Assuring that the DC office will be gradually computerized, he said that offering online service is the first step. The entire process will be completed within one month and may even take one and a half month, after which the service will be launched in the Taluk office. A lot can be accomplished through this system, he added.
