Landslip near Haleyangadi affects traffic on NH 66

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, July 28, 2017: Both outgoing and incoming traffic on the busy National Highway 66 between Haleyangadi and Kolnadu near Mangaluru has been diverted on a single carriageway since two days following landslip from a small hillock on the stretch.

Landslip

A portion of the small hillock under Padupanambur Gram Panchayat caved in on the National Highway’s Mangaluru-Udupi carriageway on Tuesday thereby affecting vehicular movement.

It was not just disruption of traffic but also a threat to an overhead water storage tank of the gram panchayat and a government school building.

Since the water tank with a storage capacity of 50,000 litres was at the brink of caving in, the authorities concerned had to immediately empty the tank and pull it down. At present, personnel engaged by the National Highways Authority of India were busy stabilising the slopes to prevent further landslip in the region. Normal traffic is likely to be restored in a day or two, said officials.
