Subrahmanya, Oct 25, 2018: Traders and members of local organisations gave a call to hold a bandh today, Oct 25, Thursday, in protest against the assault on Guruprasad Panja, Hindu Jagaran Vedike Sullia taluk secretary.  The traders and members of organisations held a rally on Oct 24, Wednesday evening, condemning the assault on Guruprasad by activist Chaitra Kundapur and her associates.

Sources in Subrahmanya police station said that Chaitra had invited the wrath of the Sangh Parivar members by chastising rituals, including the highly venerated ’Sarpa Samskara’ observed at Kukke Shree Subrahmanya Temple.

Yesterday, evening, Chaitra, along with eight men, had confronted Guruprasad at Kashi Katte in Subrahmanya. There was a heated exchange of words culminating in a free for all assault.

Police, who rushed to the spot, resorted to mild lathi charge, in order to disperse of the crowd. They also detained Chaitra and the eight men in the police station.

A profusely bleeding Guruprasad was taken to a private hospital for treatment.
