Mangalore, August 14: Konkani writer Eddie Netto received the Konkani Kutam – Bahrain Award 2010 at a special programme held in the auditorium of St. Sebastian’s Church, Bendore on Aug 13, Friday.

Administrator of Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital Fr. Richard Coelho presided over the programme and honored Mr. Netto by draping a shawl around his shoulders, presenting him flowers and fruits, and awarding him a cheque for Rs. 50,000. He lauded Konkani Kutam – Bahrain for  recognizing the achievements of Konkani writers and providing medical care for the economically weaker sections of the society. He urged Konkani associations to encourage the youth to take interest in Konkani literature.


Editor-in-chief of Daijiworld Weekly Stephen Mascarenhas read the citation letter and gave a brief introduction to Mr. Netto. Editor-in-chief of daijiworld.com Walter Nandalike spoke in praise of Mr. Netto’s educative articles.


President of Rachana J. A. Noronha was the chief guest of the occasion. Musician Melvin Peris said that he was happy to attend this function and witness a Konkani litterateur getting honored.

 
Mr. Netto expressed his gratefulness to Konkani Kutam – Bahrain for supporting his literary works. He also thanked the publishers of his books and sought future support too.


Titus Noronha compered the programme; and the students of Sandesha presented a welcome dance.
