Konkani community felicitates Dr. Ramdas Pai and N. Yogish Bhat

Mangalore, Mar 6: The Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation of World Konkani Centre, Mangalore organized a grand felicitation programme at Town Hall on March 5 to felicitate Dr. Ramdas Pai for receiving the Padma Bhushan and N. Yogish Bhat for being elected as the deputy speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Grace Pinto, the managing director of Ryan International Group of Institutions, was the chief guest of the occasion.


 
William D’Souza of Souza Group introduced Dr. Ramdas Pai. Ms. Grace Pinto honored Dr. Ramdas Pai. Fr. Eric Crasta, the president of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, honored N. Yogish Bhat, who was introduced by Narayan Kamath.

In his address after accepting the honor, Dr. Ramdas Pai said that this is an honor not just for him, but for the entire community. He said that he has only carried forward a tradition established by his father, the late TMA Pai, and that he does not consider his contributions as his own accomplishments, but a team effort of all associated with the educational, corporate, and healthcare sectors.

Mr. Yogish Bhat said that he has not won his position as deputy speaker because of his personal charisma, but because of the trust bestowed on him by the people. Speaking of his intention to cleanse politics of corruption and dishonesty, he said that he is guided in life by his firm belief in God and also the belief that nothing is impossible to achieve.

Dr. P. Dayananda Pai presided over the event. Basti Vaman Shenoy, the president of the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, delivered the welcome address. Dayananda Pai also felicitated Nagaraj Shetty, the former minister, with flowers and shawl. Venkatesh Baliga, S. M. Arshad, Kudpi Jagadeesh Shenoy, and Raghunath Shet were the dignitaries on the dais.

At the end of the programme, the public were allowed to personally wish the two achievers.

Concepta Alva was the MC of the programme. Venkatesh Baliga, the secretary of Konkani Language, proposed the vote of thanks. A sugama sangeetha event marked the end of the programme.
