Mangalore, July 29, 2012: Valerian D’Souza, a widely acclaimed Konkani writer popularly known as Vally Vogga, received Konkani Kutam Award 2012 at an award ceremony held at St. Sebastian Hall in Bendore on July 28, Saturday. 


Konkani Kutam of Bahrain conferred this award on Vally Vogga in recognition and appreciation of his contributions to Konkani language and literature. 


Kasargod Chinna, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, presided. The chief guest of the event was Fr. Francis Rodrigues, editor of the Konkani weekly Raknno.

Fr. Rodrigues draped a shawl around Vally Vogga and presented him a cheque for Rs. 50,000. William Pais, proprietor of Orchid Art Gallery, read the citation and Kasargod Chinna gave it away.
Vittori Karkal introduced Vally Vogga to the audience. He said that Mr. Vogga has worked for Konkani for the past 48 years as he had begun writing at the tender age of 17. 


In his acceptance address, Vally Vogga said that all Konkani speakers are duty bound to give important to their mother tongue. He also thanked Konkani Kutam of Bahrain for honoring him.
Richard Moras released Nidon Poddollo Ganv, Walter Dantis’ anthology of poems published by Kavita Trust, on this occasion. Kavita Trust President Melwyn Rodrigues introduced the book. 


Max Sequeira, president of Karnataka Social Club; Lidera D’Souza, wife of Vally Vogga; J. R. Lobo, former commissioner of MCC and Congress member; and Eric Ozario, gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, were also present.
