Udupi, July 4, 2015: District  Komu Sauharda Vedike  unit held  protests in front of the Clock Tower here July 3,  against Modi-led BJP government at Centre for curbing civil rights.

On the occasion, the district unit of Komu Sauhrada Vedike Vice President Phanniraj said that Modi government is the protector of assassins who created havoc during the Gujarat riots.  He addd government is treating civil rights activist and journalist Teesta Setalvad inhumanly. She has been labeled anti-nationalist element and the government is framing fake charges against her.

Phanniraj alleged Modi-led Central government was framing her as she is responsible to bring at least 50 cases concerning Gujarat riots into the court and at present she is fighting for 27 cases in the Supreme Court.   The encounter culture is being encouraged by Modi government,  Modi government has given clean chit to five top ranking police officials and they were also given bail after gruesome crimes. He said irony is that two of them are recalled to service.    Condemning Modi government’s attitude for initiating CBI inquiry into the Setalvad case, he said she is being punished for being transparent in maintaining her accounts.

Asserting that the BJP government is massacring civilian rights, the social activist said the government is harnessing the terror in different form. He said that even after people received  life imprisonment in Supreme Court, they are offered bail, referring to Maya Kodnani, the BJP MLA, who was involved in Gujrat riots.

Komu Sauhrada Vedike district president G Rajashekar alleged that the government is also behaving with violence in case of Delhi University English Professor G N Saibaba.  He is granted temporary bail for three months to undergo medical treatment for multiple ailments including degenerative spine disease. He was arrested by Maharashtra police last year for alleged Maoist links and jailed in the Nagpur Central Prison. He said that how a person with 90 percent disability would be able establish Maoist links?

He also said Hemanth Karkare was massacred by the RSS activists in Mumbai and not by Islamic fundamentalists as pictured by the BJP.
