Kasaragod, Feb 25 2016: The ICAR-Central Plantation Crop Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod, which was established in 1916 as Central Coconut Research Station is gearing up to celebrate its centenary year.

Various programmes on plantation crops to empower stakeholders across the country is planned for the year long celebration. Launching of centenary celebrations  of CPCRI will be held on 12th March 2016 at Kasaragod by Shri. Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare according to Dr. P.Chowdappa, Director, Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod.

 

Honble Union Minister would inaugurate Kisan mela and address the farmers. The uniqueness of the launching of the centenary celebrations is planting of 100 coconut seedlings of CPCRI released varieties by farmers, which would become centenary coconut park.

Kisan mela on plantation crops in which more than 2000 farmers are expected to participate, exhibition on horticulture, Scientist-Farmer interface programme would be organized as part of launching programme.

 

The other programmmes include release of publications like a century service of CPCRI to the nation, 100 programmes to empower stakeholders and unveiling of painting showing 100 years of CPCRI journey and books.
