Khader’s "chappal" remarks kicks off row

Mangalore Today News Network

UT KhaderMangaluru, Feb 26, 2017:  The ’chappal’ remarks made by State Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader at a function in the city on February 25, Saturday has kicked up a controversy.

In his speech during the function, Khader with reference to the hartal call given in DK district  had said those   violating the Constitution should be slippered.

Participating in the function which was also attended by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Minister Khader said  "Opposing the arrival of a constitutionally elected Chief Minister was against constitution. It is our culture to treat guests with respect. But today some forces by giving a bundh call have offended our culture as well as constitution. Those showing disrespect to the Constitution must be slippered."

It may be recalled here that the Sangh Parivar organisations had given a hartal call on Saturday to prevent Kerala CM  from attending the Sauharda Rally organised by the CPI(M).

Khader clarifies : Later, clarifying on his statement,   Khader said he did not intend to offend anyone, nor has he spoken against anyone. "I had only expressed my pain over the  disrespect shown to the culture of the district   when a senior leader, a chief minister of neighbouring state was visiting our district," said Khader.
