Mangaluru, May 29,2017 : State Minister for Food Civil Supplies UT Khader has directed the officials to send a proposal to the government to earmark a grant of Rs 5 crore to take up emergency work in the event of problem of sea erosion in Ullal area during monsoons.
The minister was addressing a special meeting here on May 28, Sunday to discuss the precautionary measures that need to be taken during monsoons.
A sum of Rs 223 crore has been allocated towards permanent measure to solve sea erosion problem, the Minister said adding the works have to be expedited. The officials will be held responsible in case of any discrepancy in work, he warned.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K G Jagadeesha said the respective PDOs will have the responsibility of shifting affected people from sea erosion areas to safer places. People living in shore lines should be encouraged to shift permanently to other places, the officials need to convince them, he added.
