Kerala Samajam Felicitates Coast Guard for Kerala Flood Relief

Mangaluru,Jan 12, 2019: Kerala Samajam, Mangalore has felicitated Indian Coast Guard for undertaking large scale relief and rescue operation in Kerala during the floods that devastated the state in August last year. DIG SS Dasila, commander of Coast Guard Karnataka received the award from legendary singer Dr KJ Yesudas during a felicitation function organized at Town Hall in the city on Friday, 11 January 2019. Music director Gurukiran was also a chief guest on the occasion.


Mr. Sachindranath, former President of Kerala Samajam was also felicitated on this occasion. Gana Gandharvan, K J Yesudas who had a long relationsship with Sachindranath praised his contribution in building Kerala Samajam of today’s stature.

It may be recalled that the fixed wing aircraft of Indian Coast Guard from Mangalore was the first to reach Calicut with relief material during the natural disaster. Over the subsequent weeks Coast Guard planes, helicopters and seafaring vessels ferried several tons of medicines and relief materials like food and clothing either contributed or collected from public by the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administration, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Rotary Clubs in Udupi, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Taluk Health Office, Kundapur as well as the Karnataka Government Doctors’ Association.

Responding to the honour, a jubilant DIG SS Dasila said: “We are thankful for kind of support Coast Guard  received from all quarters be it educational institutions, District Administrations of Udupi and DK along with  state government agencies, NMPT, CISF, Airport, Social Organizations , Self Help Group, Business Houses etc. All the agencies worked in close coordination. Locals and civil administration went to great lengths to support our relief operations. We are grateful to Kerala Samajam which has involved itself in many social activities in Mangalore.”
