Mangaluru, Jan 10, 2015: The BJP has so far been able to enrol over one lakh new members in Dakshina Kannada district as part of the party’s membership drive, informed senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister R Ashok.
Speaking to reporters at the District BJP office in the city on January 10, Saturday, Ashok said the target is to enrol a minimum of 50,000 new members in each constituency. He further added already 18 lakh new members have joined the BJP in Karnataka taking it to the seventh spot in the nation. Ashok said the party aims to include a total of 23 lakh new members in the next ten days, taking Karnataka to the Number 2 spot.
Ashok also exuded confidence that the state of Karnataka would soon be a Congress-free state.
Claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was striving to bring revolutionary changes in administration, he said the inclusion of more members to the party would help in sensitizing the people about the government’s programmes.
Ashok also slammed the state government and said it had completely failed in checking the menace of drugs mafia and alleged that drugs mafia had a role in the recent murder of BJP member Keshav Shetty at Soorinje.
He was further critical of the Congress government for the way it handled terror issue and charged it of being soft towards terror issues. The government has failed to be on the right track, he further alleged and described the style of functioning of the government as a Tuglaq administration.
