Karkala, Feb 01, 2016: Three cattle died on the spot when a vehicle which was unauthorisedly transporting cattle went out of control of the driver and overturned near Belanje Hanadi Cross close by Hebri on January 30, Saturday.
It has been gathered that the driver of the vehicle who spotted the cops led by Hebri inspector Seetaram P waiting for the vehicle following a tip off, lost control over the truck resulting in the mishap.
Six cows valued at Rs 25,000 and the vehicle worth Rs 4 lakh have been seized. The cattle smugglers however managed to escape.
The rising cases of cattle thefts in the area has been a cause of great concern with some even complaining that street lights are switched off during a particular time in order to help the cattle thieves carry out their illegal act.
