Hebri, oct 14, 2016 : Over 20 houses which had come up on survey number 105 at Chara Gram Panchayat in Karkala taluk five days ago, that too within just ten hours, were demolished on October 12, Thursday by a team of officials led by Karkala Tahsildar Guruprasad.
The authorities who had earlier noticed that the houses had come up on a single day on a government holiday , had set October 12 as the deadline to vacate the same. But, when it came to light that the houses were not vacated, the same were demolished using a JCB.
Of the 20 families which were residing in these houses, five landless people were asked to submit applications so that sites could be sanctioned to them.
Manjunath Nayak, Revenue Inspector of Ajekar Hobali, Sandeep, President of Chara Gram Panchayat and others were present during the demolition.
