Puttur, Oct 10, 2019 : There is a need to pass on to the future generation valuable information regarding the life and achievements of Dr Shivaram Karanth, said eminent writer and lyricist Jayanth Kaikini.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of the 118th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr Shivaram Karanth at the Balavana at Puttur on October 10, Thursday. The function was organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture, Dr Shivaram Karanth Balavana, Parladka and the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Puttur.
Kaikini said memories about Karanth are still alive in the environment at Balavana where he wrote several of his works. Karanth had awakened our self-conscience through his writings. The time spent at Balavana will help everyone reinvigorate, he said.
ZP Chief Meenakshi Shantigodu inaugurated the programme and urged students to imbibe the ideals of Dr Karanth.
Veteran journalist Chidambar Baikampady and student scientist, Aman K of Uppinangady Indraprastha Institution were felicitated on the occasion.
Dr Shivaram Karanth’s daughter, the renowned Odissi dancer Kshama Rao, Balavana Development Committee Secretary and Puttur AC H K Krishnamurthi, TMC Commissioner Rupa K Shetty and others were present.
