Mangaluru, Oct 10, 2020: Veteran writer and folk scholar Padaru Mahabaleshwar Bhat was conferred the Karanth Award -2020 at a function held at Pathumudi Saudha in the city on October 10, Saturday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Jnanpith Award winning Kannada litterateur Kota Shivaram Karanth. The function was jointly organised by the Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Kalkura Foundation.
Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. P S Yadapadittaya conferred the Award on Mahabaleshwar Bhat.
Speaking after receiving the Award, Bhat recalled his association with Late Karanth and also the good old days of shooting for the Chomana Dudi movie based on Karanth’s novel in the vicinity of his home.
Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik also spoke on the occasion.
The Kala Seva Award of Kalkura Foundation was conferred on Jayananda Kumar while Kalkura Young Achiever Award was conferred on Akshatha Poojary Bola.
Former president of Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor, Ravindra Kukkaje and others were present.
