Kabeer’s shoot out death makes nil progress in 3 month CID probe

Mangalore, Jul 21, 2014:  Even after three months since the death of cattle trader Kabeer of Suratkal at the hands of ANF personnel, the CID is yet to make any visible headway in the investigation. There are some reservations in some sections of civil society about the delay and apathy on the part of Govt. and refusal to heed a CBI probe.

It may be recalled Kabeer was shot down by ANF personnel near Sringeri in Chickmagalur district on April 19, 2014 . Many organisations and political parties had organized protests throughout the district. Meat traders had closed their shops for a day.  Demands for CBI investigation were voiced to no effect but CID probe was ordered and a case was registered against ANF personnel Navin Naik. Kabeer’s relatives were attacked at Sringeri when thet went to get Kabeer’s body and several people were injured in the incident.

Pro-Hindu organizations had oppposed  compensation to the victim’s family. BJP  alleged that Congress was interfering in the affairs of the police department.

"The CID probe has not been done transparently. charge sheet report was leaked. This clearly indicates failure of the government. If home minister had supervised the CID report properly, the investigation would have done justice," said DYFI’s Munir Katipalla.

"Truth will be revealed only by CBI investigation. We do not have faith in CID investigation. CID police will protect the accused police person. to find truth in this case, CBI probe is a  must.  We have been offered Rs 10 lac as a compensation from the government," stated Mohammad Ismail, brother of Kabeer. There is suspicion from some quarters in the case.
