KSTDC holds 2-day light and sound show on Shri Krishnadevaraya

Mangalore, March 3: Innovative Lighting Systems will organize a fabulous 2-day light and sound show in honor of Shri Krishnadevaraya, the ruler of Vijayanagar, on Nehru Maidan on behalf of the Tourism Department and the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC). The organizers are in the process of organizing this show in several places in a bid to boost tourism.

A replica of Vijayanagar will be created on a stage as large as 7200sq.ft. and the show is based on the life and achievements of Shri Krishnadevaraya, right from his coronation to his administrative skills, his conquests, and his achievement of making Vijayanagar one of the richest kingdoms in India.


M. K. Dutt, the assistant director of this show, said that this is the first mobile light-and-sound show of its kind in India. The show uses replicas of Vijaya Vittala Temple, Lotus Mahal, The Stone Chariot, Ugranarasimha Statue, Sasivekalu Ganesha, Kadalekalu Ganesha, the elephants stables, Virupaksha Temple, the king’s balance, Akka-Thangi Bande, Anjanadri Hill, Eduru Basavanna, Tungabhadra River, Badavi Linga, and others made of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP), metal, and wood. The entire set is arranged at a height of 40ft.


The creative director of this show is Nagabharana, the popular film maker. Popular theatre and film personalities such as Ravindranath, Murali, Sudha Rani, Anu Prabhakar, Sharath Lohithashwar, Champa Shetty, Kalagangotri Kitty, and B. V. Rajaram have played a role in this show. Playback singers Hemanth Kumar, Rajesh Krishnan, Nanditha, and Chetan have lent their golden voices.


Mr. Dutt said that the show was well received in Dharwad, Shimoga, Chikkaballapur, and Chamarajanagar. School children were brought to the set so that they could learn about Hampi.


This show is a KSTDC initiative in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Shri Krishnadevaraya’s coronation and will be held in 20 districts in north and south Karnataka. The public can view this show on March 5 – 6 between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 8:40 p.m.
