Mangaluru, 09 Jan 2016: Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department (RDPR) has posted senior officer Dr.KN Vijaya Prakash as chief of Grama Swaraj Project, an externally sponsored scheme for sustainable development of rural people, on January 8, 2016.


vijaya prakash The RDPR department redeployed four senior officers who are on deputation in the department of urban development to speedup developmental work in drought hit talukas of the state, transfer order of RDPR said.

Vijayaprakash was serving as Managing Director of Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation, Bangalore. Earlier, he served as Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation and Chief Executive officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath.

The major objective of the gram swaraj project in the 39 ‘Most Backward Taluks’ is to provide them opportunities towards improving their present conditions particularly with respect to the management of public resources and the delivery of relevant services that the rural people prioritize.

In order to achieve this objective, the project would: Build capacity in the Grama Panchayats (GPs), Taluka Panchayats (TPs) and Zilla Panchayats (ZPs) Improve framework and guidelines for own revenue collection.Provide formula-based Block grants to 1343 GPs in the ‘Most Backward Talukas’.

M.Umanada Rai, Deputy Commissioner of Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP) also deployed to RDPR department as Project Director,DRDA Cell, Raichur.
