KMDC has spent Rs. 237.5 crore on minority welfare – KMDC chairperson

nb abubakker disUdupi, May 9, 2012: Addressing reporters on May 8, Tuesday, N. B. Aboobakker, the chairperson of Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation (KMDC) Limited said that the KMDC has implemented schemes worth Rs. 237.5 crore during the past 3 years and 10 months, in the course of which 1.45 lakh people in Karnataka have benefited. 


Revealing further details, he said that Rs. 20.27 crore has been distributed among 13,602 beneficiaries under the Swavalambana Margin Money Scheme, subsidized loans worth Rs. 71.56 crore have been distributed among 40,642 students belonging to minority communities under the Arivu Scheme, Rs. 43.78 crore has been distributed among 31,867 beneficiaries under the Shrama Shakti Scheme, Rs. 40.46 crore has been distributed among 46,865 beneficiaries under the Micro Assistance Scheme, and Rs. 52.27 crore has been distributed among 5,621 beneficiaries under the Ganga Kalyana Scheme. 


He also said that the KMDC has given away Rs. 4.14 crore to 541 beneficairies under the lift irrigation scheme and micro loans worth Rs. 3.09 crore to people affected by the floods. 


Stating that previous state governments used to earmark only Rs. 20 crore to Rs. 30 crore for the Minorities Welfare Department every year, he said that the BJP-led state government has allotted Rs. 128.98 crore to the department in 2008 – 09, Rs. 173.73 crore in 2009 – 10, Rs. 269.26 crore in 2010 – 11, Rs. 326 crore in 2011 – 12, and Rs. 406 crore in 2012 – 13. 


Stating that previous governments used to earmark Rs. 10 crore to Rs. 14 crore for the KMDC every year, he said that the BJP-led state government has increased funds for the KMDC.
