Mumbai, June 25, 2015 : The judgements in cases of Jayalalithaa, Laloo Prasad Yadav and other political leaders is testimony to the deteriorating legal machinery in the nation, regretted former Lokayukta and former Supreme Court judge Justice N. Santosh Hegde.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 15th Annual General Meeting of the Bunts Nyaya Mandali held at the Buntara Mini Auditorium at Kurla East on June 23, Tuesday night.
Continuing, Justice Hegde said as an ordinary advocate, Supreme Court Judge and Lokayukta he has strived hard to abide by the law and could rise to the present heights as he considered Nyaya Shastra as Dharma Shastra.
He appreciated the Bunts Nyaya Mandali which has given an opportunity for members of the community to settle differences among them within themselves instead of dragging it to the court of law.
Karnire Vishwanath Shetty, President of Bunts Sangha, Mumbai and MB Vittal Rai, Vice President of Bombay Bunts Association were on the dais.
Padmanabha S Payyade and Ravindra M Arasa were elected unopposed as the new President and Vice President respectively of the Nyaya Mandali for the year 2015-17. Justice Kadandale Parari Prakash L Shetty, Justice Ashok D Shetty, Ratnaker V Shetty, Dr Prabhaker Shetty, Justice Anand V Shetty, NC Shetty, Prabhaker L Shetty, Jyothi R Shetty, Ramakrishna V Shetty, Sanjeeva Shetty, Pandu M Shetty, Jaya A Shetty and PD Shetty were elected to the Executive Committee.
MD Shetty presided over the function and said he was happy to note that the Bunts Nyaya Mandali set up under the guidance of Justice Santosh Hegde 15 years ago has been successful in settling several disputes amicably.
The new President Padmanabha Payyade assured to strive to discharge his responsibility to his fullest capabilities.
Outgoing General Secretary Justice Ashok D Shetty presented the annual report while the Treasurer Dr Prabhaker Shetty presented the annual account statement.
