Dr. Sadananda Suvarna, the national award winning film maker, said that film-making, which was once viewed as a social experiment, has now become a commercial venture. Referring to his film “Ghatashradda,” which took eight years to be telecast on television despite an investment of Rs 2 lakhs, he said that the same film might require an investment of Rs 50 lakhs today.

Referring to the biggest film industry Bollywood, which is based in Mumbai, he said film industries of other languages are trying to copy it. Commercial film makers consider film making as a project in which money-making ingredients are just mixed together. Expressing regret that only two percent of the films made today are of high quality, he said that it is the need of the hour to transform the film industry. He called upon interested people to make the necessary changes in the film industry. Dr. Suvarna also shared his experiences regarding Guddada Bhootha, his television serial, and plays such as Male Nilluvavarege and Court Martial.

Later, two of Dr. Suvarna’s films were shown.

P. B. Harish Rai, the general secretary of Press Club, made the welcome speech and proposed the vote of thanks. Harsha, the president of DK District Working Journalists’ Association, presided over the programme. Guruvappa N. T. Balepuni, the general secretary of the association, and Anand Shetty, the president of Press Club, were the dignitaries on stage. Manohar Prasad, Bureau chief of Udayavani delivered the introductory speech on the occasion.

A large number of media people and students of journalism were present for the programme.
