The search for two more bodies of members of the family of Basappa who were washed away following landslide and flash flood continued.

Puttur assistant commissioner Krishnamurthy said, “The work on clearing the boulders on the highway at Jodupala is in progress. Rescue operations have been stopped at the site. Three earth movers have been pressed into service to remove huge boulders blocking the road. Several landslides in the area had resulted in boulders falling on the road.”

Forest officials were also engaged in clearing the uprooted trees that had fallen on the road.

He said the district administration had taken up the work of laying pipes, to pump out water from the highway at Jodupala.

The entry of unauthorised persons to Jodupala has been restricted by placing barricades and deploying police personnel at Koinadu.

Though 372 members from 91 families have registered at the Kallugundi relief camp, only 110 persons from 30 families are residing at the centre. Others are residing in their relatives’ houses.

Donors have supplied eggs for the children at the relief camp. On Sunday, with the help of the donors, the victims were supplied non-veg food as well.

Thekkila community centre relief camp nodal officer Veerappa Gowda said a total of 339 persons have registered at the camp and 228 are staying at the camp. Those who have been residing at their relatives’ house also come and register their names in the camp.

The camp has two cooks. Women affected by the floods help the cooks in their work, said the officer.

The Puttur AC has passed an order prohibiting the entry of public inside relief centres at Sampaje and Aranthodu. The visit of public to the centres raises concerns over cleanliness. Further, in the interest of the safety of the victims, the entry of public has been banned. If anyone wished to extend an helping hand, they can contact the officials. The victims’ relatives can visit in the morning and evening only after availing permission, he said. All the victims at the relief centres are being provided with ID cards. Even the volunteers are issued ID cards, said the AC.
