Mangalore, March 19: Derebail Vittaldas Tantri inaugurated the Jaya ViJaya Kambla at Jeppinamogaru, on the banks of River Nethravathi, on March 19.
After the prayer ceremony pair of bulls were brought into the race track by the villagers and participants were welcomed in a traditional way by offering arecanut and leaves.
The event, which commenced today morning, will continue at night under floodlights.
Around 150 buffalo pairs from Kasargod, Udupi, and DK participated in the event. A prize comprising 8gms of gold will be given to the winner of each category and the runner up will receive 4gms of gold.
Sura Sangam, a music troupe based in Mangalore, will present a performance on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
