Mangaluru, Jan 22, 2018: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) President H.D. Deve Gowda on his vist to Mangaluru, announced about the peace march by his party members in the city in the wake of recent communal violence in the region from past few momnths.
Addressing the media at Circuit house, today he said that the march will be led by JD(s )national president HD Deve Gowda and leaders of various organisations, associations, JDS workers and others including general public will participate in the march. It will be about 2km from Ambedkar circle to Nehru Maidan. The peace march will probably held in the second week of February this year. The objective of this march is to maintain peace and security in the district in the wake of series of untoward incidents that are taking place from past few months .
He also said ,the police commissioner had sought permission few months ago but as there was section 144 imposed in the district we had to postpone . But this time we have taken permission from the concerned authorities to hold such a peace march.
There is no point of seeking Congress support in upcoming elections, as we have burnt our finger in 2004 elections. Do not want to repeat the mistake once again. We will field candidates in all the 224 constituencies of Karnataka during the upcoming Assembly polls in May 2018. If CPI and CPM approaches us for a pre-poll agreement, we are willing to leave a few seats uncontested for them, he said.
JD(S) district president Mohammed Kunhi, JD(S) state general secretary B M Farooq, Azeez Kudroli and others were present.
