Mangalore, Aug 10, 2014 : Newly appointed MLC Ivan D’Souza who visited the Passport Seva Kendra in Mangalore on August 9, Saturday, has expressed his displeasure over the delay in issuing passports. He has requested the government to increase the staff strength in the Kendra so that it can process at least one thousand applications every day.
During his visit, Ivan came to know that the Kendra at present processed only 350 applications per day in turn making the wait long for may applicants.
His visit followed complaints by many that the Kendra took nearly a month and a half for processing documents which inconvenienced many.
The MLC also promised that he would lead a delegation from the city to meet the authorities at the Regional Passport Office at Bangalore in order to mount pressure on them to appoint additional staff at the Mangalore Kendra.
Pointing out to the problems faced by many applicants who had to remain in queue outside the office for long, Ivan said the officials have informed him that the office premises would be extended to the first floor and better amenities like seating arrangements, wash room and drinking water facility would be provided to the applicants.
