Innocent arrested in Ulaibettu clash case, alleges family

Mangaluru, Dec 15, 2015 : The controversial arrest of Aboobakker Siddique  in connection with last year’s Ulaibettu assault case,  is  taking new twists every day. If Circle Inspector Pramod Kumar who was sent on  leave  following the arrest, had resumed duty the very next day after his colleagues and locals protested, the family of the accused Aboobakker has now come out in the open to claim that he was an innocent and was arrested merely  because  he had complained against the  earlier  arrest of two other ’innocents’ in connection with the same case.

Aboobakker’s uncle Mohammad Shariq who addressed the  press meet said  two persons namely Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Iqbal were arrested on October 25 by the Mangaluru Rural Police in connection with the December 2014 Ulaibettu clashes and were even tortured in police custody. He also alleged that the complainant had not mentioned the name of the two in his complaint.

Shariq further stated that Mohammad Siddique was part of a delegation   of Ulaibettu Muslim Jamaat which had met the Mangaluru Police Commissioner seeking the release of the two. "Inspector Pramod Kumar who knew about this, later arrested Aboobakker after falsely implicating him in connection with the clashes," he alleged.

He further stated that the girl who had lodged a complaint  had named Aboobakker, son of Usman  as  the accused, but  at a recent press meet she had told she had identified the accused. This is nothing but an attempt to fix innocents in the case, he further alleged. At the same time he said even tithe Aboobakker named by the girl in her complaint was innocent.

To a question, he said "When Inspector Pramod Kumar was contacted last Monday to  inform him that Aboobakker who was arrested was innocent, he  told  us to get a person named Ansar after with Aboobakker would be  released. He also threatened to file criminal defamation case against the police.

 Mohammad, Asiba and Nasiya, relatives of Aboobakker were also present.
