Udupi, May 23, 2016: Member of Parliament, Shobha Karandlaje, directed the officials of the NHAI, National Highways Authority of India and Konkan Railway to conduct a joint survey for the widening of the railway overbridge at Indrali on the Udupi-Manipal Road here. She was chairing the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting at the District Offices Complex.
An official from Konkan Railway said it had given its nod for widening of the overbridge at Indrali to the PWD, Public Works Department. But now the Udupi-Manipal Road has been upgraded from State Highway to (Malpe-Tirthahalli) National Highway 169A. As a result, the over bridge was now under the jurisdiction of NHAI.
MP Karandlaje added that the Konkan Railway was undertaking doubling of track on the Konkan Railway route. Hence, the NHAI should upgrade its plans while widening the overbridge. Hence a joint survey should be conducted, she said.
Also, the officials of the Ports and Fisheries informed the meeting that the construction of the breakwater at Gangolli fisheries harbour would start soon at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.22 crore. It would take four years to finish.
