Mangaluru, July 17, 2018: The fifth Indira Canteen in the city has come up near Mahaveer Circle at Pumpwell at a cost of Rs 15 lakhs. The canteen was declared open on July 17, Tuesday by State Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader.
Speaking on the occasion, Khader said with the inaugural of the Indira Canteen at Pumpwell, all five Indira canteens sanctioned for the city are operational. He also informed that 78 more Indira Canteens will be opened in the state.
Indira Canteen will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner at subsidised rate. The MCC would earmark Rs 2.25 crore annually for its maintenance, informed MCC Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer.
Several dignitaries including Mayor Bhasker Moily, MLC Ivan D’Souza, former mayor Kavitha Sanil, Chief Whip Shashidhar Hegde, Corporators Naveen D’Souza, Asha D’Silva and others were present.
