Indians must learn patriotic values from Yellappa – Veerappa Moily

Mangalore, May 7, 2012 : Speaking on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th birth anniversary of Barrister Attavar Yellappa, Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, the union minister for corporate affairs, said that India has to remember people like Yellappa and learn patriotic values from them.

Stating that it is the need of the hour to fight against social and political evils, he said that one needs immense patriotism to fight against these evils. Speaking about Yellappa, he said that he is a very good example of those who preferred to die for the country so that the national would be free. He was not only a great associate of Nethaji Subhashchandra Bose, but also a person with great organizational skills, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda recalled the sacrifices and contributions of Attavar. Stating that people like Yellappa wanted to build a free India, he said that the India of today is just not the India of their dreams, but is fraught with problems such as corruption, terrorism, and others. Stating that each and every citizen of India can make a difference, he urged people to follow in the footsteps of Yellappa and contribute to the growth of the nation.

The CM also said that proposals to build a statue of Yellappa, name a road in his honor, and name the Mangalore Airport after him have been brought in and added that a decision will be taken after discussing the matter thoroughly.

Prof. Jagmohan Singh, the nephew of Bhagath Singh; Subroth Bose, the nephew of Nethaji Subhaschandra Bose; Adil Shah Nawaz, the grandson of Shah Nawaz Khan and his wife Mahabin Shah Nawaz; Poornima Dhillon; V. P. Saini, the chairman of the Nethaji Research Foundation; and others were also honored on this occasion.
