Mangalore, Oct 16: In a major breakthrough, Anti-Terrorist Squad of Karnataka Police has arrested a suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba militant allegedly involved in various cases, including the 2008 Bangalore serial bomb blasts.

Suspected LeT ’commandant’ Ibrahim Moulavi (48) was arrested on Friday night at Badiyadukka in Kasargod district on specific information collected by the ATS, police said.

"We have been trying to track both of them for the last two months. We have been working on the leads for long," the sources at Bangalore said, adding chargesheet has already been filed against the duo.

Two different teams had been deployed to arrest the accused in the blasts, they said, adding they would be brought to Bangalore shortly.

The serial blasts in July 2008 had left one killed and 20 injured.

Hailing from Vellimunda of Wayanad district of Kerala, Ibrahim had been residing at Badiyadukka for the last one-and-a-half years, police at Kasargod said.

He was also allegedly involved in the Ernakulam Collectorate bomb blast in July last year and also in the recruitment of youths for militant activities in Kashmir, police said. None was injured in the Collectorate bomb blast that was triggered by an improvised explosive device.

The ATS has taken Ibrahim Moulavi to Bangalore, police said.

On August 17, Karnataka police had arrested Peoples Democratic Party leader (PDP) leader Abdul Naseer Madani, an accused in the Bangalore blasts, from Kollam in Kerala.

Another suspect Ummer Farook, a notorious terror facilitator who was involved in terror recruits is also believed to be arrested in Ajmer, Rajasthan
