Mangaluru, Oct 13, 2020: State INTUC Youth Wing President Varun Kumar S K has warned of severe stir if the administration did not commence sand mining in the district immediately.
Addressing reporters at the Congress office on October 13, Tuesday, he said sand problem that has been persistent in Dakshina Kannada district since the past one year has hit hard the lives of construction workers. Kumar also alleged that sand costing Rs 6,000 was sold for as much as Rs 20,000.
He said the INTUC would fully back the protest planned by Builders Association, construction contractors from October 14.
State General Secretary of INTUC Youth wing Dinaker Shetty said the inaction of the district administration as well as the MP to the unabated sand extraction has given room for doubts.
AICC Member and former mayor Kavitha Sanil who also spoke, said the BJP leaders who were pointing fingers at Congress leaders earlier, are now silent when sand was being sold at exorbitant rates.
Youth INTUC District President Chiranjeevi Anchan and other office bearers were present.
