Udupi, Oct 6, 2019: Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the ‘Vrakshothsava’ celebrations organised by the Forest Department (Kundapur Division) at Tree Park in Badagabettu; G Jagadheesha Udupi DC stated that the task of growing trees and developing forests should be the responsibility of all individuals.
DC Jagadheesha said that forest cover is necessary to lead a healthy life for human beings. He said that our ancestors developed forests and human beings led a life with less disasters.
“However, deforestation is causing serious consequences of its own and extensive greed of human beings is resulting in the extinction of forest,” he lamented.
He directed officials to develop tree parks. Animals and forest should be part of human life. The forest should be nurtured, so that the animals will find their habitat, the deputy commissioner added.
“Students should plant saplings and grow forest. If youth join hands in developing forests, Nature can be protected for the next generation,” he pointed out.
Kamala Karikalan, assistant conservator of forest (Kundapur Division), said that planting trees or developing forest should not be only a celebration. “It should be everyday affair of mankind. There is urgent need for all students to realize the importance of forest in their day to day life,” said the officer.
Punit Patak, additional principal chief conservator of forest (APCCF), Bengaluru, said that trees should be protected from tragedies like man and fire. Students should take up the task of creating awareness on the importance of forest, he added.
