Mangalore, Mar 24: Four houses beside NH48 near Valachil in Adyar were damaged on March 24, Wednesday during the highway widening work.










This happened on the night of March 23, Tuesday. A roller was leveling one side of the widened highway, as a result of which the resistant wall collapsed and the walls and roofs of the houses were partially damaged. Fortunately, there were no casualties as the residents of the houses were alerted on time.

Since the front portions of the houses were acquired for road widening, the houses were located close to the resistant wall. Mohammed, one of the residents, said that they had already been told about the dangers involved in residing in these houses. He said that the officials refused to acquire the entire houses, as a result of which they are forced to live in fear.

Other residents said that the resistant wall was constructed of red bricks, which are not strong, adding that resistant walls must be built of stone.

The residents have urged the deputy commissioner to visit the place in the hope that he will help them solve this problem.
