Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Nov 1: "Dakshina Kannada lacks adequate government hospitals to provide medical services at affordable prices to the poor and the underprivileged, owing to which the state government must not privatize the city’s government hospitals such as Lady Goshen and Wenlock," said B Madhava, the state president of CITU. He was speaking at the Save Wenlock movement launched by the Horata Samiti in front of the DC’s office on Nov 2, Monday.

Mr. Madhava inaugurated the protest by saying that 77 percent of the population of India earns less than Rs 20 per day, owing to which they require basic necessities such as medical care free of cost."

Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) are just concepts, which the state government is using to dupe and betray poor people. In spite of being categorized under BPL, people are not provided free medical treatment because they own LPG or television sets. He alleged that this is the state government’s ploy to convert government hospitals into private-public enterprises.

Associations such as DYFI, SFI, JMS, AITUC, CITU, AIUF, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, South Kanara Beedi Workers’ Federation, and other associations supported this protest.
