Padubidri , Aug 27, 2011 : The driver of a car, which was hired by a stranger at KSRTC bus stand on Thursday evening, has gone missing. Friends who went looking for the driver found the car abandoned at Padubidri near the main gate of Suzlon Energy Ltd., but the driver is still missing.

udupicarReportedly, a stranger approached the driver Govardhan (24) at KSRTC bus stand with the intention of hiring his car. The stranger said that his own car had developed problems at Karkala and that he had to bring it back. Govardhan agreed to take the man to Karkala. Govardhan had also called his elder brother Hemanth at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday telling him that someone has hired his car to go to Karkala.

The people who hired the car are probably responsible for Govardhan’s disappearance. The spot where the car was found bore signs of another car having arrived there. There are also signs of  a scuffle and traces of chilli powder were discovered on the seats of the car. The indicator knocks and headlights were damaged and the driver’s footwear was inside the car. The floor mats and seat covers are missing. Apparently, the miscreants had washed the car thoroughly.

Govardhan’s mobile phone has been switched off since Friday morning. His brother has already lodged a complaint at the police station. Hemanth and his friends hired a car and went in search of Govardhan, and when they were returning, they spotted Govardhan’s car at Padubidri, near the main gates of Suzlon.

Sniffer dogs and finger print experts were brought to the scene, but the sniffer dogs could not do much because it was raining. Meanwhile, the police got information that four strangers wearing bandages on their hands had arrived at KSRTC bus stand on Friday evening and tried to hire a car to go to Bekal Fort. Since no driver was willing to take them, they finally headed over to the railway station.

Govardhan of Bejai works as a pump operator during day and runs a hired car service at night. He has old parents, 2 brothers, and a sister.
