Mangalore Today News Network

thogadia disKasargod, May 4, 2012: The Kasargod police have not yet given their permission for the Hindu Shakthi Sanghom, scheduled to be held in Kasargod on Thalipadappu Ground on May 6 at 3:00 p.m.

Saffron outfits are busy making preparations for the event, in which Praveen Togadia, the international general secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), is expected to participate.

The people of the district, however, are in two minds about it. Kasargod is a communally sensitive area and the district police are still not sure if they ought to permit the event.

According to Raveesh Tanthri Kandar, the vice president of the state Hindu Aikyavedi, told reporters at a press conference held for the purpose that hundreds of Hindutva leaders, including swamis from Karnataka and Kerala are expected to participate in this event.

A senior officer, however, admitted that the police have still not decided if the event must be permitted, especially as Togadia, who is notorious for his provocative and fiery speeches, will be participating.

The police have stated that if the event is held without permission, it will be considered to be illegal. T. K. Shibu, the assistant superintendent of police, said that the police are assessing the situation and will take the proper decision soon.
