She said the Samithi has prepared a documentary on the ill-effects of such western celebrations, and on the significance of the Ugadi festival in order to create awareness among the people.

She said that the present generation has forgotten good old traditional practices and is celebrating a wrong day in tourist  spots, public places, pilgrim places and school premises on  Dec 31 midnight.

The Western way of celebrating New Year by boozing, consuming drugs, wearing obscene dress,  dancing to loud music, riding vehicles at great speed, bursting crackers etc should be avoided a they not only cause pollution but may also lead to harassment of young girls, she said.
